Malcom X

As I wrote before in my blog (noun a Web site on which an individual or group of users produces an ongoing narrative noun ) I born in Saudi Arabia, Jeddah city, but I grew up in eastern region, Dammam city.

The story was started when I was chilled. In my hometown we had three televisions channels that was before satellite Saudi channels-1 (Arabic language), Saudi channels-2 (English language) and Saudi channels-3 (English language and it was controlled by ARAMCO company).

In those channels I mean that are by English language have many kinds of programs. One of those programs is called Youth Dialogue. The man who preparer these program his name is Hudhaifah Abdulrahman Alamerice. He is American Black Muslim and he always wearing a shirt by a large X. At that time I did not understand what he said in English language and what the meaning or what the symbolizes of capital letter on his shirt I mean X.

After many years and before I decided to complete my education in United State I saw a book with my friend the title of this book is (Do you know what would make a man change from the religion of his fathers (parents)?). I started ask him about this book who is the author and what is the book about. He said do you know the black man on Saudi channel who preparer Youth Dialogue program TV, I said yes but I do not know his name, then he said this book talk about his life, I said cool could I borrow from you a few days, he said sure.

I started read the book. It is by Arabic language and has many information about his life and Islam in America. I saw that capital litter I mean a big X letter. It is symbolizes of Malcom X. In that time and in that book there are a few information about Malcom X but, I did not complete my reading about him.

I arrived in United State and started studying the English language in ALI (American Language Institute) in University of Emporia State, Kansas State, Emporia city. One day our teacher her name in Cara asked us as students to make presentation about famous person who change some thing in this life, but she said you should not write about some one from your place or in other word some one who do not know or read about him before. She said my goal that I want from you to read new thing about some one. Then I decided to shoes one person from those two men, I mean Martin Luther King or Malcom X. I chose Malcom X and I plan to make any presentation in future about Martin Luther King.

First I started to search in Internet and I found some of websites that talk about him I mean Malcom X. The best website that I found has this link www.brothermalcolm.net. In my opinion it is amazing because that it is made by black background color, as I like. This was my feeling when I visited that website that I said to my self it is useful website in terms of design and information. Then I clicked on Photographs link because I like watch more than I read. I saw that the designer divided the life of Malcom X to four sections. Each section has a period of date with the known music in that period of time. In the end of searching and reading of this website I surprised and noted the e-mail of designer is included University of Toledo. I copy his e-mail and searched in UT website and I found that he’s name is Abdul Alkalimat and he is director of Africana studies and professor of sociology at University of Toledo. I sent e-mail to him for thank him for this website and told him that how I glad and happy for browsed and found his website. New I am studying in ALI of UT and I hope that one day I will meet him.

In this topic I will write briefly about this man I mean Malcom X and I will divide this topic into four section as I saw in that website. First section between 1925 –1941 and his name was Malcolm Little. He born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 19, 1925. While he was living in Omaha, the family was often harassed – at one point the family’s house was set afire. Malcolm’s father was killed by Ku Klux Klan (name of a number of past and present terrorist organizations in the United States 1922).

Second section was between 1941 – 1948-he tokes those nick name Detroit Red or Big Red. He dropped out and went to his older half sister, Ella, who lived in Boston. He spent some time in Boston, and then traveled to Harlem, New York where he committed petty crimes.” Detroit Red” was the nickname because his hometown Lansing was close to Detroit and his hair was red. By 1942 Malcolm was coordinating various narcotics, prostitution and gambling rings. Malcolm began selling and using drugs, turned to burglary and, in 1946 they were arrested and convicted on burglary charges, and Malcolm was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In jail he used the time to further his education. It was during this period of self-enlightenment. Malcolm was a smart, focused student. He graduated from junior high at the top of his class. However, when a favorite teacher told Malcolm his dream of becoming a lawyer was “no realistic goal for a nigger,” after that Malcolm lost interest in school.

Third section was between 1948 –1964 and his name changed to Malcom X. While in jail Malcolm’s brother visit and discuss his recent conversion to the Muslim religion. In 1948 Malcolm became a follower of Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the “Nation of Islam”By the time he was paroled in 1952 he discarded his “slave name,” Little, and took the new name “X”. He improved his poor knowledge by reading encyclopedias and studying plenty of books as well as the Qoran and followed strictly the Nation of Islam’s dietary laws and moral codes. After that in 1954 he undertook organizational work for the “Nation of Islam” under the guidance of Elijah Muhammad.

Fourth section was between 1964 -1965 he changed his name to Elhaj Malik Shabazz. In 1964, Malcolm X went on his pilgrimage to Mecca and there he began to consider changing his views towards integration. In Mecca, he saw that it was possible for black and white people to live in brotherhood, of which he was deeply touched. After the pilgrimage he adopted the name El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. When Malcolm X was delivering a speech in the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem on February 21, 1965, black man shot him down.

Finally, I want to write some thing to who will read this topic in my blog that I chose this man to read and write about him for one reason that I like always to see and know a vivid example in our life that how the knowledge changed everything around us sky and earth and so people as he said in one of his quotes that “”Without education, you’re not going anywhere in this world.”. This man had I bad case in his early childhood. Then a prison in adolescence, but when he gust started read every thing change, not just in his personal life but also in another people life. In his biography I read that one day in his early childhood that a favorite teacher told him his dream of becoming a lawyer was “no realistic goal for a nigger,” may be that is right he did not become a lawyer to individuals person but he become lawyer to issue and many people.
